An Experimental Teaching Platform for QoS Analysis in UDP/IP Networks Using Python

Author(s): Nguyen Thanh Phong

Abstract:

This paper presents a practical and low-cost model for measuring latency and jitter in UDP/IP networks using Python within a Wi-Fi LAN environment. The system employs a client–server architecture in which transmitted data includes timestamps and SHA-256 hash values to ensure integrity, while the receiver verifies packets and computes latency and jitter based on transmission time differences. Repeated transmissions are conducted to enable statistical analysis, with Wireshark and matplotlib supporting visualization and validation. Experimental results demonstrate that the model effectively captures key Quality of Service (QoS) characteristics and reflects the impact of network conditions such as load, interference, and device configuration. The proposed approach is simple, reliable, and well suited for educational purposes, with potential extensions to network optimization and real-time communication research.
