Abstract: Edge computing is revolutionizing data processing, particularly in IoT deployments where real-time analytics and low latency are critical. This paper investigates Google Cloud Platform's (GCP) suite of edge computing solutions designed to bring compute and storage resources closer to data sources. Key aspects explored include the architecture, benefits, and practical applications of GCP's edge computing capabilities. Specifically, the study examines services such as Google Distributed Cloud Edge, Google Cloud IoT Edge, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) for on-premises deployments, and Anthos. These solutions enhance IoT deployments by enabling rapid data processing, robust security features, and seamless integration with cloud services.
Furthermore, the paper explores emerging trends in edge computing, including its convergence with 5G technologies and the potential for new applications such as real-time augmented reality and ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC). These trends emphasize GCP's significant role in shaping future IoT landscapes and highlight how GCP's innovations in edge computing empower enterprises to address the growing demands for efficient, scalable, and secure IoT solutions.
