Common Service Centre: A Scheme to Narrow the Digital Divide in Women?

Author(s): Archi Ojha

Abstract: This study explores the impact of Common Service Centers (CSCs) on women’s empowerment in Kanpur, India. Twenty female participants were interviewed to gather data on their experiences and perceptions of using CSC services. The findings indicate that CSCs have significantly contributed to women’s financial independence, reduced their dependence on others for availing government services, and enhanced their confidence in using technology. However, societal attitudes and biases remain a challenge for women’s employment opportunities through CSCs. Overall, the study highlights the potential of CSCs in promoting women’s empowerment and digital inclusion.
