Author(s): Dr. Sudhakar Bandu Manwar

Abstract: Empowering women is very essential for the society because unless and until women are empowered, there can be no progress. They need to be made alert and aware of their equal status in the society. One can’t think of a progressive society without women empowerment. Due to a Patriarchal family system and hegemony of men, women have suffered a lot throughout the ages. They have been denied equal rights and opportunities for their all-round growth and development. Women Empowerment means equipping women with the capacity to give themselves power in all aspects like cognitive, psychological, political, social and economic. In other words, empowerment of women implies enabling women to be economically self-sufficient, self-reliant, to have a positive self-esteem so that she can address any difficult situation, and participate in different developmental activities. It is better to say women empowerment is the need of the hour. Empowerment is an important parameter of quality of life. Women Empowerment also leads to more economic benefits not only to the individuals but to the society as well. Women empowerment helps women to stand on their own feet, become independent and also earn for their family which grows country’s economy. Women empowerment helps the women to attain economic self-sufficiency. Women Empowerment is also an indicator for national development. One Nation can move towards development, progress and prosperity when women are empowered.
