Psychic Tumult in the Selected Novels of Anita Desai

Abstract: Various novels in English literature deal with the inner psychic conditions of women in society. In English literature, many more women novelists represent their works to explain how women faced day-to-day problems in their lives. The novels of Anita Desai portray inner psychic feelings, emotions, loneliness, communication hypersensitivity, alienation, and self-identity. The basic themes of Anita Desai’s novels- Cry, the Peacock (1963), Voices in the City (1965), Bye-Bye Black Bird (1971), and Where Shall We Go This Summer? (1975), Fire on the Mountain (1977), Clear Light of Day (1980), The Village By the Sea (1982), Baumgartner's Bombay (1989), Journey to Ithaca (1995) and Fasting Feasting (2000) represent the psychic tumult.
