Bridging the Gender Digital Divide in India

Abstract: The digital transformation hold immense potential to improve people’s economic and social outcomes, still challenges with regard to women’s access to and use of these technologies remains to be achieved. Gender equality is a universal human right which recognizes the importance of gender equality in ensuring the advancement of society and a way towards reducing the existing gender gaps in digital inclusion. The divide in digital literacy is due to various factors such as geographic, education, government policy as well as socio-economic and cultural systems in India. It is argued that digital transformation perpetuates gender-related inequality, empowering women has the potential to generate a new source of global economic growth that is more inclusive. The incorporation of ICT is referred to as digital transformation which is capable of providing an avenue for more and equal women participation in labour markets and entrepreneurship leading towards empowerment. In this study an attempt has been made to focus on the existing digital gender gap by identifying its key factors and trends and to studying the role ICTs in bridging this gap. Hence, the digital transformation can bridge the existing gender digital divide and lead towards women empowerment with access ICT and other technologies access. To achieve gender equality girls and young women need equal access to technology and to be safe online
