Author(s): Dr. Devidas Shriram Bhagat

Abstract: Women empowerment is a crucial concept for achieving gender equality and socio-economic development worldwide. In India, the process of empowering women is deeply influenced by the country's social environment, including cultural norms, family structures, and societal attitudes. Despite various advancements, challenges such as gender-based violence, economic disparity, and limited access to education continue to hinder women’s progress. This paper explores the role of the social environment in shaping women's empowerment in India, discusses the barriers women face, and offers policy recommendations for advancing women’s rights. Through a combination of legal reforms, educational initiatives, and grassroots empowerment programs, India can make significant strides towards gender equality and social justice.
